Parameterized Graph Cleaning Problems

چکیده
We investigate the Induced Subgraph Isomorphism problem with non-standard parametrization, where the parameter is the difference |V (G)| − |V (H)| with H and G being the smaller and the larger input graph, respectively. Intuitively, we can interpret this problem as “cleaning” the graph G, regarded as a pattern containing extra vertices indicating errors, in order to obtain the graph H representing the original pattern. We show fixed-parameter tractability of the cases where both H and G are planar and H is 3-connected, or H is a tree and G is arbitrary. We also prove that the problem when H and G are both 3-connected planar graphs is NP-complete without parametrization.

Parameterized reductions and algorithms for a graph editing problem that generalizes vertex cover
We study a novel generalization of the Vertex Cover problem which is motivated by, e.g., error correction (data cleaning) prior to inference of chemical mixtures by their observable reaction products. We focus on the important case of deciding on one of two candidate substances. This problem has nice graph-theoretic formulations situated between Vertex Cover and 3-Hitting Set. In order to chara...
متن کاملGraph Layout Problems Parameterized by Vertex Cover
In the framework of parameterized complexity, one of the most commonly used structural parameters is the treewidth of the input graph. The reason for this is that most natural graph problems turn out to be fixed parameter tractable when parameterized by treewidth. However, Graph Layout problems are a notable exception. In particular, no fixed parameter tractable algorithms are known for the Cut...

Fixed Parameter Complexity of Distance Constrained Labeling and Uniform Channel Assignment Problems - (Extended Abstract)
We study the complexity of a group of distance-constrained graph labeling problems when parameterized by the neighborhood diversity (nd), which is a natural graph parameter between vertex cover and clique width. Neighborhood diversity has been used to generalize and speed up FPT algorithms previously parameterized by vertex cover, as is also demonstrated by our paper. We show that the Uniform C...
متن کاملContributions to Parameterized Complexity
This thesis is presented in two parts. In Part One we concentrate on algorithmic aspects of parameterized complexity. We explore ways in which the concepts and algorithmic techniques of parameterized complexity can be fruitfully brought to bear on a (classically) well-studied problem area, that of scheduling problems modelled on partial orderings. We develop efficient and constructive algorithm...
